This project deals with a house with a common problem seen in many residences: small spaces and areas lacking natural light. This issue has been addressed in this small home located in the historic center of Hondarribia.
It is a one-bedroom house accessed through a winding hallway that distributed the spaces, but was completely devoid of natural light. Resolving this access and reconfiguring the distribution of the spaces from the entrance became the project's main objective.
Four partitions that barely touch the perimeter and ceiling, along with a circular volume, occupy the new floor plan to encourage a fluid way of living in the house, and, above all, to facilitate the passage of light into the previously inhospitable access area.
A sandstone from the north, with a tone reminiscent of the harsh streets of the old town, extends throughout the space, never fully abandoning the feeling of being in the same place.
Ultimately, it was this new arrangement of partitions, along with the solid circular volume you encounter upon arrival, that enabled a new sense of openness and light, which floods the house, recalling the play of the Sluices series by Dora Maurer.
